1965 Mustang.
The Ford Mustang production began in Dearborn, Michigan on March 9th, 1964 and was introduced at the New York’s World Fair on April 17th, 1964. Originally it was called the 1964 1/2 model but later the name “Mustang” was coined. It was based on the Ford Falcon but made more modern and a hell of a lot stronger. The Mustang sold more cars than Ford’s previous hit model, the Model A. It also competed with hits such as the Chevrolet Camaro, AMC’s Javelin, and the Chrysler Barracuda, and sold more than all three of them.
John Najjar and Robert J. Eggert suggested the name “Mustang”. Najjar was a big fan of the P-51 Fighter Plane seen popularly in WWII, and Eggert was a breeder of quarter horses. Currently the Mustang is on its 5th generation, 1st generation lasted from 1964 to 1973 and had a V8 engine with 289 cubic inches, 2nd generation was from 1974 to 1978 and Ford introduced the 302 V8 engine, 3rd generation lasted from 1979 to 1993 and kept the 302 but gave an option for either a 5.0 V8 or a 6 cylinder engine, 4th generation lasted from 1994 to 2004, and finally, the 5th generation which lasts from 2005 to present day.
